In the previous post, we learned 10 Amazing Health Benefits of Beetroots. This vegetable isn't very popular for its flavor, though, and many people struggle to find a way to include beets in their diets. This smoothie is sweet, creamy, and the perfect way to incorporate beetroots into your daily intake, even if you are not such a big fan. Moreover, it is a perfect pre-workout smoothie due to the kick of energy coming from the beetroot and banana in it.

Beets are often called superfoods due to their countless beneficial properties. Beets are low in calories and fat, and are a great source of energy. They are a rich source of vitamins A, B, and the immune-boosting vitamin C, magnesium, iron, manganese (which is good for your bones, liver, kidneys and pancreas), fiber, phosphorus, potassium (essential for healthy nerve and muscle function), zinc, beta-carotene and bety-cyanine, among other nutrients and minerals.

Imagine A World Made Of Food

Today, I came across a brilliant photographer who combines my passion for both food and photography into beautiful pieces of art. The artist is the Brazilian photographer William Kass. One of his most well-known series is entitled Minimize. The most extraordinary distinctive of this series is his exploration of everyday situations from an unusual point of view, featuring miniature little people in regular sized backgrounds.

As Katie Homser wrote in My Modern Met, "The lighthearted compositions feature the artist's clever and imaginative way of seeing the world. A group of men goes fishing for large sashimi, an ear of corn becomes an obstacle to climb, and a bunch of green grapes are transformed into a glamorous stage fro dramatic performers. Other objects Kass transforms into fictional adventures include an iPhone, a candy bar, noodles, pickles, and a box of matches."

Monday Motivation

"In a 2007, Laura Kubzansky, HSPH associate professor of society, human development, and health, found that emotional vitality—a sense of enthusiasm, of hopefulness, of engagement in life, and the ability to face life’s stresses with emotional balance—appears to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The protective effect was distinct and measurable, even when taking into account such wholesome behaviors as not smoking and regular exercise"

Are we, Women, our Worst Enemies?

Top 10 Celebrities Who Are Not Safe From Stretch Marks. Stars Caught Without Make-up. The 20 Most Shocking Celebrity Plastic Surgery Transformations.

Are you familiar with those headlines? I am sure you are, they are everywhere, yet none of us would admit that we ever enjoyed reading such articles. I must confess, I used to read articles like that. I used to scrutinize their pictures in search of the slightest imperfection, and then I would treacherously criticize the model with a certain feeling of satisfaction. Shameful, huh? Magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, or the prestigious Vanity Fair, depend on women's addiction to gossip for their sustainability. This behavior is intolerable. As women in a male dominated society, we need to stand together in support of each other instead of being another headache to deal with.

Nowadays, more women refuse to accept unhealthily thin body types as a female body prototype. Promoting unrealistic perfect bodies retouched by Photoshop, Social Media contributes to depression and negative body image in women and young girls. Campaigns spreading positive body image awareness among young women are growing in number. For instance, the controversial campaign led by the Italian fashion brand Lolita portraying the anorexic model Isabelle Caro. Unfortunately, what seemed to be the light at the end of the tunnel has lately turned against us.

Banana Bread Granola

I love baking my own granola, especially because it makes my home smell heavenly! Granola basically consists of rolled oats, nuts, and dried fruits. It's coated in syrup and it's then baked. We are free to create our own granola by adding almost any ingredient that we wish chocolate chips, shredded coconut, raisins, dried figs, pumping seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, dried apples, smashed bananas, cashews, almonds, walnuts, and a long etcetera.

Rolled oats are high in protein and provide lots of fiber, which is important for good digestion. Dried fruits are an excellent source of vitamins and certain antioxidants. Nuts and seeds are high in magnesium and healthy fats. In short, Granola is a healthy source of fuel for an active lifestyle and it's copiously packed with necessary nutrients for your body.

Start your day off right

I would like to start this blog the same way I like to start my day: with breakfast! I never ever skip breakfast, not only because it is the most important meal of the day, but also because it is my favorite meal of all. It is a peaceful moment only for myself, in which nothing has yet happened to ruin my day, before all the stress of work, studies and obligations come full throttle. I either connect to any social network or check my mail. I enjoy my breakfast slowly and appreciate every bite of it.

Moreover, research on the topic suggests that breakfast plays a significant role in our health. A 2003 study the American Journal of Epidemiology showed that people who skip breakfast are more likely to be obese than those who do not. Having a balanced breakfast is also beneficial to get the energy your body requires to keep you going throughout the day, and it is an optimal pre-workout meal. It has also been suggested that eating breakfast will help you make healthier choices and prevent overeating in the subsequent meals of the day.

My favorite breakfast choice is oatmeal. It is indeed a versatile food that allows me to add as many different toppings as my imagination covers. Thus, I avoid falling into the monotony of boring unatractive breakfasts. In my opinion, it is important to make sure that all my breakfasts are complete and include complex carbs, healthy fats and protein. I like to eat oats warm, overnight, or in a form of granola.

Which are your breakfast preferences? How do you like to start your mornings?

Have a nice Monday!
